AUTUMN PORTRAIT

AUTUMN is the personification of autumn from the Season Portraits Series. Her facial features are created out of the natural elements from that season. Autumn is a season of transformation and intuition, as nature prepares for winter. The leaves of deciduous trees pull back their chlorophyll causing the leaves to change from green to fiery hues. Monarchs make their way back home and forest animals busily save for winter. A wealthy variety of foods are harvested in autumn, foods we associate with comfort and community. A time to relish in the vibrant colors of nature, warmth of home, and time with those we love. We cherish the aliveness of autumn, as the night grows equal to the day. Soon winter will come, and all will go to sleep.

My Season Portraits Series is painted with richly pigmented water-soluble oil paints made by Royal Talens, a paint company that is committed to sustainability. They’re painted on 48x48 inch cotton canvases that I texture myself with a heavy-bodied gesso and each canvas has a 1.5 inch wood frame.
