LIBERTAD Journals
Here you'll find prints of my painting, LIBERTAD, honoring the strength of the Guatemalan people. The majestic quetzal bird flying above the mother is Guatemala’s national bird and a symbol of freedom. They’re surrounded by Guatemala's many beautiful flowers and familiar plant life.
The blue bird flying above the boy symbolizes the spirit of bravery and intuition. The inner landscape with the sole man in a small boat between two volcanoes represents the challenges a person faces when immigrating. Leaving behind their home to arrive in a new place and culture, both places with their own struggles. This creates a larger, peaceful, and loving face that welcomes and comforts those who endure this journey.
The roots under their feet symbolize their search to feel rooted and safe. The butterflies symbolize transformation and migration reminding us that migration is an ever-constant movement throughout humankind all over the world.
Please note that these prints are shipped directly to you from the printer so they each have a digital signature and are not hand signed by me.
