Videos

Hi there,

As an artist, it's hard to do anything without turning it into a creative project!

I've been creating several types of videos in the past few years. First I started with timelapse videos of my oil paintings. Then I started creating reels on Instagram and shorts on YouTube, which are so fun and satisfying to make!

My oil paintings are quite complex so I thought it would be a good idea to create informational videos explaining the symbolism in each painting, what they're about, and my creative process along the way.

I'm also an art educator, so I create instructional videos for children and teenagers.

Then there's my BIG PROJECT which is Pellegrina Walking Art School, for women where we walk and explore in nature and paint in watercolors. I'm working on a walking art journal course, 7 Days Walking Art Journal and painting what we find.

Video Editing Tools

I've become quite proficient in video editing and I enjoy the process! I've been using mostly three different editing programs. I use mostly Adobe Premiere Elements Video and Photo Editors. I like the detailed control they give but it can be time consuming.

So I started using Descript for its AI features, like cutting out dead space, editing through the script (AMAZING!), and even making corrections to my audio/voice through their autogenerating feature (AWESOME)! It's particularly useful for my teaching videos because I might change a detail about the class like a date or the class structure, like maybe I want the course to be 10 weeks instead 8, so I can easily change that detail in my voice without having to go back and rerecord. Pretty nifty!

As part of my art education business, Pellegrina, I am also working on a creating a podcast, both in audio and video form. So I've been learning how to use Riverside. It's also amazing in that it has "magic clips" so its AI automatically creates shorts, segments, hooks, and snapshots. How cool is that?!

I've also been playing around with Canva for covers but also for video editing. I like the control of the other tools, but I think Canva would great for quick projects.

All of these AI tools are very exciting, but as an artist I still go over everything with a fine-toothed comb. I take my creative work very seriously. I work in painting series and in those series, it's important to me that there are consistencies. If something doesn't feel right, I'll step away, and come back a few times until I come up with a solution. It's important to me that my videos are in unison with my brand, so that each project is unique but cohesive at the same time.

Recording Setup

For recording and setup, I have tried so so sooo many! Now I mostly use my Elgato Neo Mic which I absolutely love because my art studio is in my garage and it's noisy outside. With the Wavelink setup for Elgato it eliminates all background noises and only picks up my voice.

I use a Canvas Lamp for my document camera setup. I use a Panasonic Camcorder for my painting timelapse videos. For short talking head videos I just use my Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera. For long content videos, both document and talking head, I use two Logitech StreamCam Webcams which are made for streaming (perfect for long record times).

So here are some samples of my video work.
